Primeval Farm began with just three chickens in a backyard and a simple search for better eggs. What we found was a mission — and a way of farming that connects us to the land, to older ways of living, and to food raised with real intention.

Three Chickens in a Backyard
It started simply — three chickens and a search for a better egg. We quickly realised that the kind of egg we wanted, from hens raised humanely and fed with intention, simply wasn't available. So we decided to raise them ourselves.
Moving to Open Pasture
As the flock grew, we moved to open pasture and began rotating the hens across fresh ground. The difference in egg quality was immediate — richer yolks, thicker shells, and a flavour that reminded us what eggs were supposed to taste like.
Rethinking the Feed
We looked closely at what our hens were eating and didn't like the answer. Soy, corn, and flaxseed are the norm in commercial poultry feed — but they drive up PUFA levels and compromise egg quality. We reformulated completely, using carefully selected organic ingredients instead.
Embracing Permaculture
We came to see our hens not just as egg producers but as part of the farm ecosystem. They forage, scratch, and fertilize the soil. Inspired by permaculture, we built a system where the animals and the land support each other — as nature intended.
Eggs Raised the Old Way
We now raise 2,000+ hens on pasture and deliver low-PUFA eggs directly to families who care about what they eat. Every egg represents our values: humane care, pasture access, organic feed, and deep respect for nature.

Low-PUFA Philosophy
No soy, no corn, no flaxseed. We use carefully selected organic feed to produce rich, clean, deeply nourishing eggs. This is a commitment, not a trend.
Humane Always
Our hens live on pasture in a low-stress environment with fresh air and sunshine. Hens that live well lay eggs that are well. No shortcuts — ever.
